“How it would be, if a house was dreaming”

The conception of this project consistently derives from its underlying architecture - the theoretic conception and visual pattern of the Hamburg Kunsthalle. The Basic idea of narration was to dissolve and break through the strict architecture of O. M. Ungers “Galerie der Gegenwart”. Resultant permeabilty of the solid facade uncovers different interpretations of conception, geometry and aesthetics expressed through graphics and movement. A situation of reflexivity evolves - describing the constitution and spacious perception of this location by means of the building itself.

If only I understood Portuguese … this film shows excepts from Filipa César’s piece ‘Porto 1975’ which is captivating film I watched a couple of weeks ago at the Newlyn Exchange Gallery. It is shot from a visitors perspecive of one of Alvaro Siza’s social housing projects.

Filipa Cesar’s Porto 1975, a lingering high definition portrait of Bouça, the social housing project in Porto, draws in at the end of the video many threads of its place in recent Portuguese political and social history; the revolution, SAAL, the subsequent fame of the architects and final completion of the estate 30 years later.

This film is currently showing as part of An Urban Silence at the Newlyn Exchange Gallery.

Watching a film, sinking back into an oversize cushion, feeling the gentle undulations of the sea below while shrouded in the warmth of Thailand … could a cinema experience get much better than this?

This floating cinema is based on the techniques used by Thai fishermen to construct floating lobster farms. The raft is built out of recycled materials as a series of individual modules to allow for flexibility for its future use.

Archipelago Cinema is a collaboration between Ole Scheeren and the Film on the Rocks Yao Noi Foundation which is presided by Nat Sarasas, Apichatpong Weerasethakul and Chomwan Weeraworawit and Tilda Swinton.

It is part of a festival in Thailand which took place from 9th- 12th March 2012.
